Garmin LiveScope 2 Is Here: Everything You Need to Know
Jul 07, 2026
Garmin has officially announced the next generation of LiveScope, and it's already creating plenty of excitement throughout the fishing community. If you've been following the rumors over the past few weeks, today's announcement answers many of the questions anglers have been asking. But it also raises a few new ones.
- Should you upgrade?
- Will your current setup still work?
- Will you need a new pole mount, battery, or accessories?
Here's what we know so far—and what we're watching closely at Summit Fishing Equipment.
What's New with Garmin LiveScope 2?
Garmin's new LiveScope 2 system introduces several improvements designed to make forward-facing sonar even more detailed and easier to use.
According to Garmin, the new system features:
- Up to 20% higher image resolution
- Up to 25% greater viewing range
- Improved target separation
- Better close-range detail
- New transducer options designed for both open water and ice fishing
For anglers who spend hours watching fish react to their bait, these improvements could make it even easier to identify fish, separate targets, and understand what's happening in the water below them.
Does This Mean You Need to Upgrade?
No, not necessarily. One thing we always remind anglers is this:
A new product doesn't suddenly make your current setup obsolete.
If you're currently running LiveScope and it's helping you find fish, it's still an incredible piece of technology. The decision to upgrade depends on your fishing style, your budget, and whether the new features provide enough value for the way you fish.
The Questions We're Asking
As a company that builds accessories around Garmin electronics, we're looking beyond the sonar specifications.
Our biggest questions are:
- Will existing transducer pole mounts still fit?
- Will current transducer covers be compatible?
- Has the mounting pattern changed?
- Has the cable routing changed?
- Will our shuttle need any updates?
These are the questions we know our customers will ask, and they'll be some of the first things we test.
What This Means for Portable Setups
One of the biggest trends in fishing electronics over the past several years has been portability.
More anglers are using LiveScope on:
- Bass boats
- Multi-species boats
- Kayaks
- Jon boats
- On the ice
As technology continues to improve, portability becomes even more important. As the pioneer of Forward Facing Sonar Portability, we promise to continue making gear that's functional, portable, and reliable. Whether Garmin changes the transducer design or keeps many things the same, we'll continue developing products that make modern fishing electronics easier to transport, organize, and use.
What We're Testing
As soon as we get our hands on the new LiveScope 2 system, we'll be putting it through extensive testing.
We'll be evaluating:
- Compatibility with Summit transducer mounts
- Compatibility with Summit transducer covers
- Livescope 2 Ready to Fish Bundles
- Summit Lithium Battery performance with the LVS42 & LVS44
- Installation
- Overall portability
We'll share everything we learn so you can make informed decisions before purchasing new equipment. We will work tirelessly in order to come out with gear that supports this new technology.
Should You Buy LiveScope 2?
If you're building a brand-new setup, LiveScope 2 will certainly be worth considering.
If you're already running LiveScope, we'd recommend taking a little time to understand exactly what has changed before deciding to upgrade. The gear you have, may or may not be compatible therefore be prepared for extra expenses.
New technology is exciting—but the best fishing electronics are the ones that fit your style of fishing and help you spend more time on the water.
